Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:
Protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of children’s health or development, ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Child Protection: is part of safeguarding and promoting student welfare. It involves measures and structures designed to prevent and respond to significant harm, abuse, exploitation and neglect.
Safeguarding includes: Child Protection, Health Care Plans, Health and Safety, Site Security, Safety on school trips and visits, Safer recruitment – School Central Record & DBS checks, online safety and associated issues, anti-bullying work, children’s & learner’s health, mental health and emotional well-being and so much more.
Tips for staying safe when you are leaving school
- Don't carry unnecessary valuables
- Make your way home as quickly as possible after school
- Travel home in small groups if possible
- If it is dark by the time you leave school avoid walking in unlit areas, where not many people usually walk, such as alleys or parks
- If you feel you are in danger, return to school immediately or seek help at the nearest shop/cafe
- When you get to school - tell a trusted adult
Tips for staying safe when you are out with friends
If you are going out, make sure you stay safe and tell someone where you are going.
- Be careful if you're on a bike
- Keep your phone with you at all times
- Don't take anything off someone you don't know
- Don't meet up with or go anywhere with strangers - make sure you know everyone in your group.
Tips for if you feel unsafe at home
